The unexpected reset that keeps me coming back to OpenAI

Expanded from a LinkedIn post originally published on 2026-10-07.

Yesterday, I used about 26% of my total 5 day usage allowance using Astra-6.1 Sol. Today I woke up to 0% usage.

I didn't ask for it. This is why I love using OpenAI and will continue to use it.

And ironically, I only posted about this thing happening yesterday!

Capacity is part of the experience

The model matters, but so does knowing whether I can keep working with it. When agents are part of the day rather than an occasional experiment, usage limits become a practical planning constraint.

This was a personal experience, not a promise about what every account will receive. I had used roughly a quarter of my allowance, then woke up to a reset I had not requested. That sort of small surprise makes the service feel more useful in practice.

The work still needs a direction

Extra capacity is welcome. It does not decide which project deserves attention or whether an agent's output is ready to ship. Those decisions are still mine.

What it does remove is one interruption between having a useful task and getting on with it. Sometimes that is enough to make a tool the one I keep returning to.
